Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has drawn attention after visibly aligning with the initiative. Following criticism and earlier public commentary regarding the use of a motorcade, he was recently seen travelling on a motorcycle from his official residence, Varsha, to Vidhan Bhavan in South Mumbai to attend the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Legislative Council members.
Further reflecting the shift in travel practices, Fadnavis opted for a commercial flight operated by Indigo Airlines from Pune to Bengaluru, choosing an economy class seat instead of a state-chartered aircraft that he had previously used for official travel. The decision has been widely acknowledged and praised in public discourse, with supporters viewing it as consistent with cost-cutting and fuel-saving objectives outlined by the state administration.
Economy class, the most basic and cost-effective seating category in commercial air travel, is commonly chosen for standard mobility without premium services. Fadnavis’s decision to travel in this category has been interpreted as part of a broader administrative approach toward reducing non-essential government expenditure.
Reports also indicate that, following the Prime Minister’s appeal, several chief ministers, governors, and ministers across the country have begun reassessing the use of official convoys and air travel arrangements, with a shift toward more economical and public transport options being observed in certain instances.
